Chapter 5 Strip 7

Right. At this point, I should introduce you to my own private philosophy. All my German readers were more or less already familiar with the guy in the strip (the younger of the two), if only in theory.

The “Missis” he is talking about is no-one lesser than myself, which was clear to anyone who knew me through my (German) blog, because I keep talking about my own belief of having a rather mischievious case-worker in Destiny.
Imagine Destiny as one great institution where a multitude of consultants are responsible for the individual fate of every person in the universe (including animals, plants and inanimate objects). Those consultants are what we either call spiritual leaders or guardian angels – or in my case, roguish tricksters who like to have a laugh while on the job. You know that you have the same guy on your case, if nothing whatsoever in your life seems to get to you easily. You do get your share of good luck, but mostly you only get it in combination with a strange set of minor misfortunes. To give you a simplified example: If you find a golden ring on the street, you can be sure that you’ll strain your back while bending down to pick it up.

I believe that this guy is not unknown to a lot of people. Why would it be, then, that tricksters of that sort are to be found in almost every mythology? Think of Hermes/Mercury, of Loki or of Krishna – or even think of Q from the Star Trek universe! I’m telling you, this guy is real, and I was ‘lucky’ enough to get him as my personal case-worker.

For some reason, my father and my brother got the case worker that just says ‘Ye know what? I’m going to just give it smooth sailing for these guys, so I can take the week off’. However, I suspect mine is a good friend of yours, whose mindset is along the lines of ‘I will make his life screwed up, complex, and yet let him get through tough situations THIS closely, so that he remains overconfident about the next situation which he won’t be able to handle, simply because otherwise my job would be boring’.

It might also be that you just got the same case-worker as I, which is the guy you see in this strip. And I’m telling you, he’s just had a field month with me.
